Arctic Circle

Imaginary line that encircles the North Pole at latitude 66° 30' north. Within this line there is at least one day in the summer during which the Sun never sets, and at least one day in the winter during which the Sun never rises.

The length of the periods of continuous daylight in summer and darkness in winter varies with the nearness to the North Pole; the nearer the Pole the longer the period during which the sun is continually above or below the horizon.
