Ardabil

City in northwest Iran, near the frontier with Azerbaijan; population (2006) 418,300. Ardabil exports dried fruits, carpets, and rugs.

In late 1990s, he became governor of the northwestern province of Ardabil.
Religion and spiritual practices were important to Shah 'Abbas who donated 1,000 pieces of porcelain and 250 Persian poetic and historic manuscripts to the Ardabil shrine of his ancestor, Sheikh Sail, a 14th century Sufi mystic.
Strategic oil storage tanks were inaugurated in Khalkhal, Ardabil Province, in early February 2009.
