Ardglass

Village and port in County Down, Northern Ireland, 11 km/7 mi southeast of Downpatrick; population (2001) 1,700. Jordan's Castle, a tower house in the centre of the town, dates from the early 15th century. Ardglass is built on a natural harbour, and was the most important fishing port in the north of Ireland during the 19th century; it still has a thriving herring and prawn industry.

The houses called King's Castle, Queen's Castle, and the old tower, Horne Castle, which date from the 14th–16th centuries, were reconstructed in the 19th century and now form the clubhouse of a golf club.
