Ardmore

Village and holiday resort in County Waterford, Republic of Ireland, 8 km/5 mi east of Youghal; population (2002) 680. St Declan is reputed to have established a mission here in the 7th century; a cathedral and a round tower dating from the 10th–14th centuries stand on the site of the original foundation. St Declan's Oratory, where the saint is supposed to be buried, stands in the graveyard of the cathedral.

Ardmore

Town and administrative headquarters of Carter County, south Oklahoma, USA; population (2000) 23,700. It is situated 144 km/90 mi south-southeast of Oklahoma City, next to Lake Murray, and to the south of the Arbuckle Mountains. Originally ranchland, it was selected as a town site by the Santa Fe Railroad in 1887. A 1913 oil strike in the local Redbeds made it an industry centre. Today it is a processing and shipping point for cotton and other agricultural goods, dairy products, and livestock. Local produce also includes building materials, plastics, electronic components, and leather goods. The town is home to a federal school for American Indians.

Ardmore

Community forming part of the Lower Merion township in Montgomery County, southeast Pennsylvania, USA; population (1990) 12,600. Settled in c. 1800, it is named after a town in Ireland. It is an affluent residential community.
