Arena, Point

Rocky promontory overlooking the Pacific Ocean in Mendocino County, northwest California. It is situated 160 km/100 mi northwest of San Francisco. Its 35 m/115 ft–high white concrete lighthouse replaced an 1870 brick one destroyed in the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. The north land end of the San Andreas fault is here. The town of Point Arena thrives on tourism, including whale watching; population (1990) 400.
