Argyll, George John Campbell, 8th Duke of Argyll (1823-1900)

Liberal politician who held several ministerial posts. He resigned the office of Lord Privy Seal 1881 on the question of an Irish Land Bill. He was also an opponent of Irish home rule. Succeeded to dukedom 1847.
