Argyllshire![]() A row of thatched haystacks at Oban in Argyllshire, Scotland. Traditional circular haystacks are built by arranging sheaves outwards in concentric circles, making sure that the centre of the stack is higher than the edge so as to shed rain outwards. The stacks are then thatched with straw to give further protection from the rain.
