Cypselus (lived 7th century BC)

Greek ruler, the first tyrant of Corinth, about 657–627 BC. He confiscated and redistributed the lands of the nobles, imposed a tithe on revenue and possibly struck the first Corinthian coinage.

Cypselus was the son of a non-Bacchiad father and a Bacchiad mother (the Bacchiads were the ruling aristocratic clan). He seized power from the Bacchiads and established the tyranny in Corinth which lasted until 584. He was succeded by his son, Periander.
