Aristippus (c. 435–356 BC)

Greek philosopher. He was the founder of the Cyrenaic or hedonist school. A pupil of Socrates, he developed the doctrine that pleasure is the highest good in life. He lived at the court of Dionysius of Syracuse and then with Laïs, a courtesan, in Corinth.

His doctrines were taught after his death by his daughter Arete, and later by her son, Aristippus the Younger.
