Aristodemus (died 724 BC)

Semi-legendary king of Messenia, in the southwestern Peloponnese. During the first Messenian War he sacrificed his daughter in fulfilment of a vow, for the safety of his people. His efforts proved fruitless, and he committed suicide on her tomb.
