Aristophanes of Byzantium (c. 257–c. 183 BC)

Greek scholar. His works included editions of Homer and other poets, and his arguments to the plays of Aristophanes and the tragedians are largely preserved. He also did valuable work as a lexicographer and grammarian.

He studied at Alexandria under Zenodotus and Callimachus, and was appointed head of the museum library about 187 BC.
