It may be angular or round in shape and made of different materials such as arkansas stone, carburundum, Japanese water stones, ceramic wet stones and diamond stones. Smith Abrasives got its start in 1886 mining rocks that would become Arkansas stones, which are acknowledged as the world's best at giving a polished edge to a knife. The Arkansas stone is then used to "polish" the blade edge, removing any small burrs and imperfections left by the other two stones. |
