Arkell, William Joscelyn (1904–1958)

English geologist famous for his work on the Jurassic system.

Arkell was born in Highworth, Wiltshire. He went to study at Oxford, and went on to become senior research fellow of New College in 1933. He was the author of a number of standard reference works on the Jurassic system, including The Jurassic System in Great Britain, 1933, and The Jurassic Geology of the World, 1956.
