Arlott, (Leslie Thomas) John (1914–1991)

English writer and broadcaster. He gained popularity as a cricket commentator for the BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation), particularly in partnership with Brian Johnston on Radio 3's Test Match Special, and wrote numerous books on the sport, including Arlotton Cricket (1984).

Arlott was born in Basingstoke, Hampshire. After employment as a clerk in a mental hospital, he became a detective in Southampton Borough police 1934–45, before joining the BBC. He retired from broadcasting in 1980.
