Armavir

City in Krasnodar krai (territory) in the southwestern Russian Federation; population (1990) 162,000. Armavir is situated in the northern foothills of the Caucasus, on the left bank of the River Kuban, some 165 km/103 mi east of Krasnodar. The city lies in a rich agricultural area, and its industries include food processing and agricultural engineering. It is also an important rail junction.
