Armfelt, Gustav Moritz, Count Armfelt (1757–1814)

Swedish general. He showed great courage during the war between Sweden and Russia 1788–90, and as military representative of Gustavus III concluded the peace of Varala. When Gustavus was deposed Armfelt went into Russian service. Later he played an important role in creating the autonomous grand duchy of Finland under Tsar Alexander I.
