Armin, Robert (c. 1565-1610)

English comic actor. A pupil of the clown Richard Tarleton, he joined the Lord Chamberlain's (later King's) Men, becoming principal comedian. He adopted the role of Dogberry in Much Ado About Nothing and almost certainly created the parts of ‘witty fools’ such as Feste in Twelfth Night and the Fool in King Lear.
