armoured personnel carrier

An armoured personnel carrier with caterpillar tracks for driving over rough terrain. They are used for transporting troops.

Wheeled or tracked military vehicle with light to medium armour protection used to carry infantry into and out of battle; it carries up to ten people. Many APCs are amphibious and most mount light weapons for close defence and support.

As a result of the 'mechanized battalion in-waiting' approach, light battalions were organized and equipped almost identically to the mechanized battalions, with the obvious exception of armoured personnel carriers (APCs).
For example, out of the Philippine Army's 102 M-113 armoured personnel carriers, only 64 are combat capable.
Even the "withdrawal" from cities was only partial, with tanks and armoured personnel carriers regrouping on the outskirts poised to strike again.
