Armstrong, John

Armstrong, John (1755–1816)

US soldier and explorer. A militia officer in the American Revolution, Armstrong then served in the regular army from 1784. He commanded Fort Pitt, 1785–86, and fought heroically in General Harmar's Indian campaign of 1790. Armstrong later served as treasurer of the Northwest Territory.
