During World War II and in the years after V-J Day, the status of physical therapists in the US Army improved--they officially became part of the Army Nurse Corps in December 1942; they achieved full commissioned status in June 1944; and finally they received full military recognition in the armed forces as part of the Women's Medical Specialist Corps in March 1947.
Of the small number accepted into the Army Nurse Corps through the Red Cross Nursing Service, few were called to active duty during WWI.
She completed the training and graduated to the Army Nurse Corps, attached to the Army Air Force, helping launch a new legion of women in the military.
