Arnold, Denis (Midgley) (1926-1986)

English critic, teacher, and musicologist. He studied at Sheffield University, taught at Hull and Nottingham Universities 1964-75, and became professor of music at Oxford from 1975. He was a specialist in Renaissance and Baroque music, the author of a book on Monteverdi, and editor of the New Oxford Companion to Music (1983).
