Arnoldson, Klas P(ontus) (1844–1916)

Swedish railway worker, politician, political activist, writer, and peace worker. He shared the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1908 with Danish politician Fredrik Bajer for 35 years of peace work including the founding of the Swedish Society of Arbitration and Peace and the accomplishment of the peaceful separation of Sweden and Norway. He also convinced the Swedish parliament to consider permanent neutrality.

An influential writer, Arnoldson's publications include Är världsfred möjlig?/Is World Peace Possible? (1890), Religionen i forskningens ljus/Religion in the Light of Research (1891), Seklernas hopp/The Hope of the Centuries (1901) and Maria Magdalena (1903).

Born in Göteborg, Sweden, into a Protestant family with Unitarian views, Arnoldson worked on the Swedish railway from the age of 16 until 1881 when he entered politics, becoming a powerful member of the Swedish parliament.
