Aroostook

River in northeast North America; length 225 km/140 mi. It rises to the north of Maine, and flows into the Saint John River in New Brunswick, Canada. Its valley forms a boundary area between the USA and Canada.

The boundary, which had in the past been in dispute between the USA and Canada, was settled by the Webster-Ashburton Treaty (1842). Potato production in the valley accounts for more than 10% of national yield.
