The technology may someday help researchers create better artificial limbs that give new freedom to people who lack arms and legs. Harshbarger, an engineer in a new DARPA-funded prosthetics program, says that today's artificial muscles--fuel powered or not--remain too slow for actuating that program's artificial limbs. Former Confederate states first funded artificial limbs for the numerous injured veterans, and ultimately added soldiers' and widows' pensions, medical programs, and soldiers' homes. |
