Town in Jefferson and Adams counties, north-central Colorado, USA; population (1990) 89,200. It is located at the eastern foot of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, and is a residential suburb of Denver, lying 14 km/8 mi northwest of the city centre. Settled c. 1860 by miners who later turned to more profitable truck farming, it was an early 20th-century agricultural centre.
