Arvida

City in Québec, Canada; population (1990) 21,800. The town grew up around the large aluminium smelting plant erected by the Aluminium Company of Canada in 1926, sited here to take advantage of the hydroelectric developments on the Saguenay.

The Aluminium Company of Canada designed and built houses and urban facilities for its workers, and the town was named after the president of the company, Arthur Vining Davis.
