Opera by Saint-Saëns (libretto by G Gallet, after P Meurice), first produced at the Paris Opéra, France, on 21 March 1890. In the plot a character from Berlioz's opera Benvenuto Cellini (1838) resurfaces in an episode from Cellini's life at the court of Francis I at Fontainebleau.
