Ashdown

Village in southern England; population (2001) 5,200. It is situated 6 km/4 mi northwest of Lambourn, in the Vale of the White Horse, where the figure of a horse (the Uffington White Horse) has been carved into the chalky hillside. In 871 Alfred won a victory over the Danes at Ashdown.
