Ashford, Bailey Kelly (1873–1934)

US physician. An authority on tropical disease, Ashford discovered the parasitic hookworm that was responsible for an anaemia epidemic in Puerto Rico. He was also the founder of the Institute of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, administered by Columbia University after 1926.
