Ashford Castle

Victorian baronial castle at Cong, County Mayo, Republic of Ireland. It was built mostly in 1870 by Sir Arthur Guinness on the rump of a house bought by his father in 1855. The designers were James Franklin Fuller and George Ashlin. Ashford Castle is approached by a magnificent castellated six-arch bridge and impressive gateway. It was converted into a hotel in 1939 and has accommodated many famous visitors, including US presidents.
