Assyrian religious figure. In ancient Assyria (northern Mesopotamia, now Iraq), the king was the focus of all aspects of society: chief judge, military commander, and religious leader. Many of the Assyrian deities were adopted from existing Babylonian religious beliefs, except for the supreme national god, Ashur.

National god of Assyria, and city god of the early capital Ashur. He was a god of war and was depicted shooting an arrow from the bow, enclosed in a circle. The king was considered his high priest.

The banks were: Ashur International Bank (AIB), Al-Mansour Bank and the Iraqi Credit Bank while the hotels were: Ashtar Hotel and Al-Mansour Hotel.

The two parts of the statue from the town of Ashur, thought to be of a king or governor, are some of the best preserved artifacts from the ancient empire that flourished along the Tigris and Euphrates rivers between the 23rd and 21st century BC.
