Aspinwall, William Henry (1807–1875)

US railway builder. In 1850–55, Aspinwall constructed a railway line across the Central American isthmus in Panama. Its eastern terminus, the city of Colón on the Caribbean, was originally called Aspinwall before being renamed in 1890.

Aspinwall was born in New York, and became a partner in the shipping firm of Howland & Aspinwall in 1837. He was also one of the founders of the Pacific Mail Steamship Company.
