Assynt, Loch

Freshwater lake in northwest Highland unitary authority, Scotland; 10 km/6 mi in length and covering an area of 10 sq km/4 sq mi. Fed in the east by the rivers Traligill and Loanan, it empties into the River Inver about 6 km/4mi above Lochinver.

The Inchnadamph National Nature Reserve lies southeast of the loch, and the ruins of Ardvreck Castle, a former stronghold of the MacLeod clan, stand on its northern shore.
