Chat Moss

Peat bog between Manchester and Liverpool, England; area 2430 ha/6000 acres. Attempts were made to drain the bog in 1805 and again in 1821. George Stephenson built a railway across Chat Moss between 1828 and 1830. Most of the area is now cultivated.
