Astor, Mary (1906–1987)

US film actor. She began her Hollywood career during the silent era and developed into a versatile, sophisticated femme fatale of the 1930s and 1940s. Her many films include Don Juan (1926), Red Dust (1932), The Maltese Falcon (1941), and Meet Me in St Louis (1944). She won an Academy Award for her supporting role in The Great Lie (1941).

Among her other films are Page Miss Glory (1935), Dodsworth (1936), and The Palm Beach Story (1942). Her memoirs My Story (1959) were remarkable for their frankness.
