astral projection

Separation of the hypothetical astral body from the physical body, although remaining attached to it by the astral or etheric cord. In theosophy and similar beliefs, it is said to happen during sleep and at other times when there is a lack of consciousness, as in severe illness.

Astral projection is one of the theories suggested as an explanation for the alleged psychic ability to see at a distance (a form of clairvoyance).
