Jupiter

Town in Palm Beach County, southeastern Florida; population (1990) 25,000. It is located on Jupiter Inlet near the southern end of Jupiter Island, which lies at the mouth of the Loxahatchee River, 24 km/15 mi north-northwest of West Palm Beach.

With its sandy beaches on the Atlantic Coast and small pastel-coloured buildings, Jupiter, unlike other tourist resorts, has retained the atmosphere of a small town. Once the railway hub of southeastern Florida, it now has various recreational facilities and some light industry; tomatoes grown nearby are processed in the town.
