Atakpamé

Town in south-central Togo, 155 km/95 mi north of Lomé; population (1990) 30,000. The town lies in the Des Plateaux region, on north to south caravan, road, and rail routes, and it is the capital of Ogou prefecture. It is a commercial centre with trade mostly in locally grown cotton, cocoa, and coffee, and local industries dominated by textile manufacturing.
