Atascadero

Town in San Luis Obispo County, southwest California, USA; population (1990) 23,100. It is located 23 km/14 mi north of San Luis Obispo. A residential community and agricultural trade centre, it was founded in 1913 as a model small-farm community, which soon failed. It is now the county's second-largest town.
