Atkins, (Chester Burton) Chet (1924-2001)

US guitarist and record producer. He is known for pioneering the ‘Nashville sound’, which incorporated pop influences into country music. After appearing on the radio show Grand Ole Opry, Atkins made the electric guitar popular as a solo instrument for country music in the 1950s. As a producer he promoted such singers as Hank Snow and Waylon Jennings, reviving country music in the 1960s and 1970s.
