Atlantic County

County on the Atlantic Ocean in southeast New Jersey, USA; area 1,471 sq km/568 sq mi; population (1990) 224,300. Its administrative headquarters is Mays Landing, on the Great Egg Harbor River, which bisects the county from north–south. The eastern region of the county is the site of many seaside resort communities, the most important of which is Atlantic City. The interior has many truck and berry farms, and produces dairy products and poultry. Light industry also manufactures glass, building materials, textiles, and wood products.
