Atmore

Town in Escambia County, southwest Alabama, USA; population (2000) 8,000. It is situated to the north of the Florida line and 69 km/43 mi northeast of Mobile. A processing and shipping centre in a truck and cotton farming and lumbering area, it is also home to the Alabama men's (Holman) prison.
