Antalya

Mediterranean port on the west coast of Turkey and capital of a province of the same name; population (2000) 603,200. The port trades in grain and timber. Industries include canning and flour milling. It is a popular coastal resort.

Founded in the 2nd century BC, it has two Roman amphitheatres and the ruins of Perga nearby. It flourished under the Seljuk Turks in the 13th century.
