Attleboro

Town in Bristol County, southeast Massachusetts; population (1998 est) 39,600. It is located 48 km/77 mi northwest of New Bedford and 10 mi/16 km northeast of Providence, Rhode Island. Its industries include jewellery, tools, silver products, electronics, and paper goods. Machine tools and plastics are also manufactured. Settled in 1634, the town developed after the Boston–Providence railway was opened in 1836, and was incorporated as a city in 1914.

Attractions include the Attleboro museum for the arts, the Capron Park Zoo, and La Salette, a shrine to Mary, mother of Jesus.
