Atwater

Town in Merced County, central California, USA; population (1990) 22,300. It is located 11 km/7 mi northwest of Merced, in the San Joaquin Valley. It is a processing and trade centre for an irrigated region producing fruits and dairy products. Castle Air Force Base is to the northeast of the town.
