aubrieta

Any of a group of spring-flowering dwarf perennial plants native to the Middle East. All are trailing plants with showy, purple flowers. They are widely cultivated in rock gardens. (Genus Aubrieta, family Cruciferae.)

Late winter and spring: Galanthus, Eranthus, Salix, Corylus, Lonicera x purpusii, Mahonia, Chimonanthus praecox, Sarcoccoca, Scilla, Chionodoxa, Pulmonaria, Lunaria, Symphytum, Borago, Myosotis, Aubretia, Arabis, Hyacinth, Tulip, Acer, Aesculus, Betula, Crataegus, Prunus, Fraxinus, Berberis, Chaenomeles, Malus, Pyrus, Viburnum, Ribes, Forsythia.
For spring flowers, choose from aubretia, grape hyacinth, primrose, sweet violet, wallflower and wood anemone.
She added that gardeners could help by growing birdsfoot trefoil, honesty, aubretia, primroses and wallflowers in spring, and hemp agrimonies, cornflowers, Michaelmas daisies and Ice plants later in the year.
