Augustów

Town in Białystok province, Poland, on the Augustów canal between the rivers Vistula and Neman, 80 km/50 mi north of Białystok; population (2002) 29,700. Industries include wood, leather, and flour.

During World War I, Augustów was the scene of a successful Russian counterattack against the German army in the Battle of Augustów in 1914.
