Aurich

Town in the Land (administrative region) of Lower Saxony, Germany, on the Ems-Jade canal, 188 km/117 mi northwest of Hannover; population (1994) 5,000. Products include electrical goods, clothing, and food.

Until 1744 Aurich was the seat of the rulers of East Friesland; the district then passed to Prussia.
