Avezzano

Avezzano

Town in Abruzzi region, central Italy, 35 km/22 mi south of L'Aquila; population (1993 est) 37,400. It is built on the drained lake of the Fucino Basin. Sugar beet is cultivated locally. Avezzano was badly damaged by an earthquake in 1915, and during World War II.
