axilla

Anatomical term for the armpit.

In humans the skin of the axilla is covered with large sweat glands and hair. Large nerves and vessels of the arm pass through it, and there are numerous lymphatic glands into which drain the lymph channels from the arm, part of the breast, and part of the chest wall.
